Update

I haven't posted in a while as apart from the odd difficult exercise, things are just "chugging" along. I am still amazed at his progress with organisation, memory and speech. I've heard nothing from the school regards his schoolwork, but hope this will come later in the program.

He seems to do well with the eye-tracking exercises and is doing well with the Toe-by-Toe reading scheme that Lesley recommended. We stopped for a while, but are now back on it, and I can see he is really trying hard and is definitely making progress in that area.

I met a friend last week that I hadn't seen in a while, and she couldn't get over the change in Harry. Her daughter had very similar difficulties, and still seems to struggle with the day-to-day stuff. I did tell her to look into Dore, and I got the impression she will definitely think about it - but she commented her daughter is making progress, albeit slowly. She is still pulled out for spellings and maths apparently.

We have our assessment next week so will post his scores here when I have them.

Harry and the Ball

As expected, Harry is pleased to have an exercise with the ball!

Skipping

Harry skipping with his new karate belt. He is very proud ! Last summer he was barely able to skip!

Progress

Good news! Harry took his karate grading this week and received his certificate last night. The last grading taken back in November was quite difficult and although he passed, he needed to be further assessed to get the grade. However, this time he sailed through and is "as pleased as punch" to be wearing his new belt! His progress has been sooooo slow, but now he's moving through the grades and doing very well.

Year 5 Tests

Well, the last few days have been better. Harry seems to be in a much happier mood. He seems happy playing with his school friends rather than wandering off on his own as he was doing at the end of last term.

We also have the QCA tests this week and Harry has qualified to have a scribe (he says what he wants to write and someone writes it down for him - word-for-word) which seems to make things a lot easier for him.

I will post his results once I know them.

Lack of enthusiasm

Over the last week or so, Harry seems to have lost the enthusiasm to carry out his exercises. He blows up very quickly too, bursting into tears when things aren't going his way. I'm hoping this is just a little blip. I have tried talking to him and explaining how important these exercises are.

We are repeating a lot of the exercises - some of them we carried out quite recently because we changed them around for our holiday - so maybe he's a bit bored with them. He's waiting to get back to the bouncy ball, so hopefully that will improve his mood.

On a good note however, we have been learning spellings for his tests this week and when we went over them again yesterday, he spelt them all right!

NOTE: He has had a bad cold this weekend, so maybe this was the reason for his lack of enthusiasm!

Still improving ....

I asked Harry recently - and also again yesterday - what his day at school was like. Instead of the standard response of "fine", "I can't remember". He told me what lessons he had and in what order, and what he did. This is indeed progress for Harry.
